Are you planning any fun trips this summer?

I’m a few days away from my next trip and before I go I would like to share with you some of my travel essentials!

Do you feel it’s challenging to stay healthy and balanced when you travel?

Have you ever arrived at the airport and discovered there is absolutely nothing healthy to eat?

It has happened to me many times.

I travel a lot, and there are not that many airports that offer gourmet dining or juice and salad bars. Although I have to say it’s getting much better 🙂

I would like to invite you to peek into my carry on bag and see how I get ready when I go on a trip with a few of my must-have travel essentials.

#1 on my list is my emergency smoothie. You know that I love my smoothies but it’s difficult to travel with them on the plane and some of the hotels don’t offer smoothies as a part of their menu So I take my emergency smoothie with me. I use a combination of the Raw Reserve green superfoods which are powdered greens with probiotics and this Vega all-in-one nutritional shake is a plant-based supplement with vitamins and minerals. Both are gluten, dairy, soy, and sugar free and very high in nutrients and probiotics. The shake comes in many flavors but my favorite one is chocolate. The smoothies are perfect for traveling and very filling. You can also use them as a snack when feeling hungry. All you need to do is mix the two sachets with a cup or two of cold water. AND voila you have a nutritious and very tasty, green smoothie ready in seconds. You can buy both products at the Whole Foods Store.

#2 on my check-list is a bag with a selection of herbal teas. I take my favorite teas with me when I travel because most of the planes and some hotels don’t offer any decaf or herbal options. Caffeine is dehydrating and I feel very dehydrated when I travel especially on the plane so I’m trying to hydrate as much as I can and stay away from caffeinated drinks.. not to mention that caffeine gives me headaches. Having a cup of tea like mint, ginger or chamomile is very soothing, calming, and relaxing for the stomach. My afternoon cup of tea helps me also with my sugar cravings and snacking after a meal. I created a ritual of having a cup of tea after my lunch. My favorite after lunch teas are sweet orange or passion fruit.

I use my small glass thermos to keep my tea hot and sip it slowly. When I’m in the hotel I call room service to bring me a pitcher of hot water and I make my own tea.

#3 checklist item is a gigantic salad. I make one at home or I order it at a salad bar or a restaurant and I take it with me to the airport. Taking my salad with me gives me peace of mind that I will have a healthy meal that will make me feel good. I know what I will be eating so I don’t have to figure it out when I get to the airport. I can just have my meal, my tea, and relax and enjoy my trip. I make my salad gigantic with greens, colorful veggies, beans, mushrooms, sprouts, olives, avocados, nuts and seeds and I use light lemon dressing.

My #4 must-travel-with snack is my homemade trail mix. I don’t know why but I always crave something crunchy when I travel, and nuts and seeds are just perfect to satisfy my cravings. I mix a few different kinds of nuts like walnuts, almonds, and cashews and seeds like pumpkin and sunflower seeds. I also add some dry goji berries. I pack my trail mix into the individual ziploc bags so I don’t eat half a pound of nuts at once. The reason I make my own is because most of the ones you get at the airport contain genetically modified canola oil, preservatives, and artificial colors to make dry fruits look more colorful.
